FlexiSpot C7 Morpher review – Extremely comfortable, occasionally way too adjustable

There is a very boring but very real point in life where you stop caring quite so much about whether your chair looks like it came from Max Verstappen’s racing car and start caring about whether you can stand up after three hours without making noises like a haunted wardrobe. The FlexiSpot C7 Morpher lies very much in the second camp. It is an ergonomic office chair rather (spoiler, I can’t) than a “gamer throne,” and frankly, thank God for that.

I have been using the C7 Morpher for a month or so, having retired my Andaseat, and the first thing to say is that it is extremely comfortable. Not “comfortable once you have convinced yourself the money was worth it” comfortable, but genuinely pretty comfortable. It has that immediate sit-down-and-relax quality that good chairs need but do not always manage.

There is a lot going on here in terms of adjustability, support, recline, arm movement, lumbar tweaking, and the built-in leg rest, but the headline is simple: this is a chair I can sit in for long stretches without thinking about the chair. That is usually the best possible compliment.

Assembly was also refreshingly straightforward. Office chairs can sometimes arrive in a box looking like you have ordered the final boss of Ikea, but the C7 Morpher went together easily enough, and all the tools are included. It feels solid once assembled, too. There is a nice heft to the important bits, and nothing about it screams budget compromise. It is not a small chair, and it is not trying to vanish under a desk, but it looks smart rather than obnoxious.

It’s worth pointing out that for reasons only known to the people before us who built the extension, the door to my office is narrower than normal, so I had to dismantle the motherf.., er, chair to get it actually through the opening.

The mesh seat and back are a big part of why it works. I tend to prefer mesh for long sessions because it does not trap heat in the same way as a padded chair, and the C7 Morpher manages to feel supportive without becoming punishing. There is enough give to make it comfortable, but not so much that you feel like you are slowly sinking into it like a man being reclaimed by office furniture.

Then there is the leg rest, which I like far more than I expected to. Is it essential? Probably not. Is it the kind of thing you think is a gimmick until you recline back with it out and suddenly feel like you are “thinking strategically” rather than absolutely skiving? Yes.

It turns the chair from a work seat into something you can properly lounge in during breaks, and while I would not want to spend the entire day horizontal, it is a really nice option to have when you fancy contemplating the world a bit.

The adjustable arms are also good in theory and mostly good in practice. You can move them into pretty much any position you want (5D I think they call them. Stop.) which is great if you bounce between typing, gaming, controller use, and leaning slightly forward while pretending to understand why Windrose has crashed. The problem is they are too easy to move by accident. They feel loose. Not broken, not unusable, just far too eager.

Brush them with your elbow, shift your weight, or move in the wrong way, and suddenly one armrest has spun around, clicking like an annoyed dolphin into a new position. Don’t ever try to stand up by pushing down on them. You have been warned. With som much adjustability, I would have loved a bolt I could tighten here.

That is probably my biggest irritation with the chair because the idea is excellent. Adjustable arms are great, especially on a chair designed to fit around you rather than forcing you into one fixed posture. But there needs to be a lot more resistance.

The lumbar support is another interesting one. The C7 Morpher has FlexiSpot’s inflatable AirLumbar system, which lets you pump up the lower-back support to adjust the firmness. As an idea, I really like it. It feels clever, and it is exactly the kind of thing that makes sense on a premium ergonomic chair. In practice, though, I cannot say I notice a massive difference. I can tell it is doing something, but it never transformed the experience for me.

Maybe that is partly because the chair is already very comfortable without needing much fiddling, but I did find myself expecting a more obvious change when pumping it up.

That said, the lumbar being slightly underwhelming as a feature does not mean the chair is uncomfortable. It really is not. The C7 Morpher supports you well, reclines nicely, and has enough adjustment that most people should be able to get it dialled in. It just might take a little playing around, because this is not a chair with one lever and a vague promise. There are a lot of moving parts here.

Overall, the FlexiSpot C7 Morpher is a seriously comfortable ergonomic chair with some clever, top-range features and one or two slightly annoying habits. The leg rest is great, assembly is easy, and the chair itself is comfortable enough for proper all-day use. The adjustable arms need tightening up, and the pump-up lumbar system feels better on paper than it does in day-to-day use, but neither issue ruins the experience.

Verdict:

The FlexiSpot C7 Morpher is a very comfortable, easy-to-assemble ergonomic chair with a lovely leg rest and loads of adjustment. I just wish the armrests were not quite so keen to adjust themselves. I’ve seen some weirdly bad “influencer” reviews on YouTube that I just don’t understand. This is a really nice seat. It’s not cheap, but it’s also not what some reviewers are saying.
